From Marvel

The reach of INFINITY COUNTDOWN has expanded to every corner of the multiverse, but the question remains…Countdown to what?

This July, writer Gerry Duggan, artist Mike Deodato Jr., and colorist Frank Martin answer that query with one word that resounds throughout infinity: War.

In INFINITY WARS: PRIME #1, the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe reap what they sow as their frantic search for the Infinity Stones leads to cosmic madness like never before. The simmering events of recent months spiral into something much, much bigger in this colossal story.

Prepare to hear all the details from Marvel at C2E2 on April 6-8—but for now, take a look at the Mike Deodato Jr. cover for issue #1.

Commentary: I guess with a name like INFINITY COUNTDOWN, I can't be too surprised it was leading into something else...but it still kind of annoys me. If INFINITY COUNTDOWN was self-contained, this probably wouldn't bother me so much.  But along with the main INFINITY COUNTDOWN mini-series, there were various tie-in mini-series...only for it all to be leading into the bigger summer storyline INFINITY WARS.

I also would prefer Marvel keep their comic events seperate from the movies.  CIVIL WAR 2 was one of the most pointless events I've ever read, and it felt like it only existed because of the movie version of CIVIL WAR coming out around the same time.  You can complain about a lot of things DC has done with their movies, but it never feels like the movies are driving the comics.

Right now, I am just not feeling a lot of excitement for this INFINITY WARS event.  That may change if we get some more engaging news coming out of C2E2 next week as they are promising.
