Dreamworks has released an all-new trailer for the explosive return of Voltron: Legendary Defender, which makes its debut on Netflix June 10, 2016!

(Skip to the end for the trailer)

VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER is not a reboot, not a continuation but a reimagining of the fan-favorite science-fiction saga, promising action, comedy, and adventure. The series will launch with an hour-long origin story called “The Rise of Voltron,” and will be followed by 10 episodes.

The animation is worthy of a Dreamworks production. As I watched the trailer I laughed, became excited, and I got chills. Yes, I'm a Voltron fanboy and it was one of my favorite cartoons as a child. This new show will be exciting for me and I can't wait to share it with my kids.

From the presser:

While this bold new series will be instantly recognizable to Voltron’s legions of dedicated fans, Executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos and Co-Executive Producer Lauren Montgomery (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender) have re-engineered core elements of the original show using all of the twenty-first-century technology and storytelling innovation at their disposal. With a killer mix of old and new animation techniques, creative transformations of the characters and designs and inventive plot expansions, this fresh Voltron saga will leave kids and super fans hungry for each new episode. Like the newly designed Voltron, which bears its old battle scars with pride, DREAMWORKS VOLTRON LEGENDARY DEFENDER honors the show’s venerated history while amplifying its strengths and scope tenfold.

With an exciting cast of characters that features new additions to the old squad, it won't be hard for fans of all kinds to find a favorite. Most notable is Shiro, who takes the Black Lion. In the original series, that mantle was held by Keith as he assumed the leadership role. Based on the trailer, Shiro is the man in charge this time around. I'm curious to find out if Princess Allura slides into the cockpit at some point, just as she did in the original series.

Cast:

  • Princess Allura – Kimberly Brooks (Ben 10: Omniverse, Justice League: War)
  • Coran – Rhys Darby (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Concords)
  • Shiro, Black Lion – Josh Keaton (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Transformers Prime)
  • Hunk, Yellow Lion – Tyler Labine (Reaper, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil)
  • Lance, Blue Lion – Jeremy Shada (Finn in Adventure Time, Batman: The Brave and the Bold)
  • Pidge, Green Lion – Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow, Scream: The Series, iZombie)
  • Keith, Red Lion – Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, The Legend of Korra)
  • Emperor Zarkon – Neil Kaplan (Transformers: Robots in Disguise)
  • Haggar – Cree Summer (Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Croods
