Melissa Benoist Supergirl Best 2015 Television Actor Critical Blast

Everything is looking up -- up and away, that is, for former GLEE alum Melissa Benoist. The rising star not only found herself wearing one of the most recognized and respected symbols ever to come out of American pop culture, not only found herself the lead on a hot CBS property...but as SUPERGIRL she won the hearts of our readers and flew off handily with our Best TV Actor of 2015 award.

Benoist plays Kara Danvers / Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin sent to Earth ahead of him to care for the infant Kal-El upon his arrival. But due to science fiction space travel and timey-wimey things, she ended up getting here several years later after he'd already grown up. Taking on an adorkable human guise, she works as an intern for media mogul Cat Grant (Callista Flockhart), hiding the fact that she has the same abilities as her more famous cousin.

However, it is soon learned that Superman and Supergril are not quite the last survivors of Krypton that they thought they were. There's a whole prison of exiled Kryptonians, and they have a particular mad-on against Kara because of the actions of her mother, Alura (Laura Benanti). Joining her in her crusade to protect National City are romantic interest James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), best bud Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan), and her Earth-born sister, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), who has been working with a secret government agency designed to monitor -- and imprison -- superhuman threats.

Benoist's victory in this category finds her handily knocking down her two nearest competitors for the title -- appropriately enough, bad guys in their respective shows. Taking 28% of the vote, Benoist defeated Mark Hamill (THE FLASH's Trickster), David Tennant (JESSICA JONES Purple Man) and Vincent D'Onofrio (DAREDEVIL's Kingpin).

SUPERGIRL will be making the transition from CBS to The CW for season two, where it will join other DC superhero-based shows LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, ARROW and THE FLASH.
