A.V. Club's website released an 'exclusive' preview of the Rebirth edition of TRINITY and to put it simply: Rebirth Batman appears to be a giant, arrogant douchebag with no regard for subtlety.

Francis Manapul is flying solo on this title as writer, artist and colorist. Makes me wonder if he's doing it all from the comfort of his Bat-bed while wearing Bat-pajamas complete with cape and cowl. The setting is the Kent farm, with Lois Lane providing narration while Wonder Woman arrives discreetly in her invisible jet. Landing carefully, before emerging with a dead boar around her neck, Diana calls out to Batman looking for re-assurance that he's on his way.

In comes the Batplane, flying over the Kent farm with Batman dropping out of the sky, leaving a trail of hundreds of bats to follow his descent.

I'm sorry, but don't you think someone in Smallville is going to wonder why the Dark Knight is raining down bats on the Kent farm, while performing a low-altitude jump? Does Batman always carry hundreds of bats in the cargo hold of his Batplane so he can make a grand entrance?

It seems to me that this goes against everything we've ever come to know about Batman. Urban legend indeed.

Hopefully there is some levity following this scene. Or maybe just Superman can tear Batman a new one for acting like a beacon, for every supervillain, to turn a watchful eye on the Kent farm.
