Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week. Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that. Let's get to it!

Comics shipping this week

WWE: THEN NOW FOREVER #1 – Call me a glutton for punishment, but I pretty much always check it out when they try to do WWE in comic book form. It rarely works out well, but I am hoping Boom can do some cool stuff here. It is by Dennis Hopeless, so that does me some hope that it won’t be garbage.

BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ADVENTURES #1 – I really loved the last Batman/TMNT crossover. This seems to be a crossover between the two cartoons, so I guess we will probably not get a direct sequel, which is kind of a shame, especially the terrific ending with Batman and Rafael coming to an understanding about who each other was. But, I am still really looking forward to this one either way.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS #1 – While I did enjoy this series as part of Secret Wars, it just seems cruel to keep playing out this alternate reality thread as there are plenty of reader still bitter about Marvel’s editorial policy to make sure Spider-Man’s marriage never happened. I also imagine this book will be short lived like X-MEN ’92. If nothing else, Marvel needs to do an elseworlds like banner to keep this from confusing readers…

AVENGERS #1.1 – Mark Waid And Barry Kitson telling stories set in the history of the Avengers? YES PLEASE! I typically look at this .1 issues skeptically, but I loved how the Amazing Spider-Man ones introduced Clash into continuity, and I except these to do something similar.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #1 – This book comes with quite a bit of probably undeserved PR baggage, between oversexualized covers and people annoyed that Tony Stark has been replaced by a 15-year old black girl. Personally, I have enjoyed a lot of Marvel’s new characters, so I am willing to give this one a look. I still think they probably should have done with Lila Rhodes instead of creating a whole new character, but that is just personal preference.

MOTHER PANIC #1 – Young Animal’s new book is set in Gotham City. The line has been a bit of a mixed bag at times, but still plenty here that interests me as a reader, so I will give it a shot. DOOM PATROL #3 also comes out this week.

BACK TO THE FUTURE #14 – Last issue introduced a real interesting question. Who is Marty McFly? When Marty changed history, he returned to a 1985 that he doesn’t recognize. His family is almost foreign to him. What would that do to a person, forced to play catch up in their own life? This is something I have thought about many times watching the Back to the Future movies, and I’m glad that someone is giving us some answers. The Flash TV series has been dealing with similar questions this season.
