Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week.   Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that.  Let's get to it!

Comics shipping this week

  • FUTURE QUEST #12 - I don't have a huge connection to a lot of characters in this series, but it quickly grew on me. This is the last issue in this volume, but DC has already hinted that the series will be coming back at some point, and I am really glad to hear that.
  • ROCKET #1 - Been a lot of Guardians books on the shelves in the last few weeks. To be honest, I am a little Guardian'd out, but Al Ewing is pretty solid on every book he's done, so I will likely check it out anyway.
  • ACTION COMICS #979 - The last few issues of ACTION COMICS has been taking us on a tour of Superman's newly rewritten history. Meanwhile, many of his enemies are joining forces as a new Superman Revenge Squad. Lots of cool stuff here, though it's been a little slow. Hopefully business is about to pick up!
  • BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ADVENTURES #6 - I actually thought issue 5 was the end of this series. Was surprised to see issue 6 pop up on my hold list. I actually liked the first Batman/TMNT series much better, but this has still been a lot of fun.
  • TITANS #11 - Part one of a crossover with Deathstroke. Kind of hyped up for this. Deathstroke has become such a pansy in recent years. I miss when he used to be a perpetual badass messing with the Teen Titans. Hopefully this will be a more regular occurrence because I can't take him as a weak-kneed semi-hero anymore.
  • OLD MAN LOGAN #23 - Like ACTION COMICS, the current OLD MAN LOGAN arc features a trip through Logan's past. Definitely a strong reminder of how interesting a character Wolverine has been over the years. Next issue features his time as Patch, which is basically when I first discovered the character.
