Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week.   Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that.  Let's get to it!

Comics shipping this week

  • NICK FURY #1 - I actually really hate Fury Jr. It is just such a ridiculous stretch to make things fall in line with the Cinematic Universe. BUT, James Robinson has been putting out some amazing books at Marvel, so I will almost definitely pick this up anyway.
  • SECRET EMPIRE #0 - There has been a lot of great build up for this event. Marvel events don't particularly appeal to me, but with all the build up, I am real curious how this one all plays out.
  • BATMAN #21 - FINALLY! Ever since DC REBIRTH, I wanted more of this story. The Button features Batman and Flash teaming up to find out what is going on with the DC Universe. This is by far the comic I am most excited about for next week.
  • STAR WARS POE DAMERON #13 - While I was sitting down to write this week's commentary, the STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI trailer popped up! Very, very cool! I've said this so many times by now...Marvel has done a brilliant job with their STAR WARS line. POE DAMERON has been a great way to expand on the events leading into THE FORCE AWAKENS.
  • WORLD READER #1 - Another big series from Aftershock Comics. The solicit really grabbed my attention "Meet Sarah, an astronaut traveling from dead planet to dead planet, talking to the ghosts of dead worlds... as she fights to discover the secret that’s killing the universe. But Death doesn’t give up its secrets so easily, and as she’s hunted from planet to planet, Sarah struggles to maintain the trust of her crew and her own sanity in the endless ocean of lives. Every world has a story, and if she can find the secret tying them all together, she can save Earth from being the next world to die."
  • INVINCIBLE #135 - This is INVINCIBLE's last arc. We have gotten to see some real dark sides of some of the characters, especially Allen the Alien. I am really going to miss INVINCIBLE, but so far this last arc has been an appropriate send off.
