I got the opportunity to listen to the new single "Bimbofication" from The Dead Betties, and I loved it!

From the moment it started, I got this old-school surf music vibe that felt like East Coast CBGB meeting West Coast Beach Blanket Bingo via the heavy metal highway—all mixed together with pure punk and feedback-induced mayhem. And it's recorded well, too. Despite all the feedback, synth, and guitars, I could easily understand every word without having to struggle to make out the lyrics. How much fun is that?

I'll admit, I hadn't heard their music before this song, but I'll definitely be checking out the rest of their catalog. I understand this track is something of a departure from their previous work, but it's intriguing enough that I want to hear everything else they've done.

The video itself is a little odd—but that's okay. If you're already a fan, you'll undoubtedly embrace this song. If you're new to The Dead Betties, like I was, this track will be a breath of fresh air that expands your musical horizons. It's a welcome break from the sound-the-same musical blah that's so rampant these days.

There aren't a lot of lyrics, but what is there is a blast to listen to. Lines like "I'm a drug, and you're a junkie... never gonna get enough of my love" are just plain fun. It's a refreshing departure from the repetitive lyrics I hear so much in today's music. For me, though, the real stars of the song are the driving bass rhythm and those feedback-laden guitars.

I was told the song was inspired by the recent Kristi and Bryon Nome "Bimbofication" discourse, filtered through the world of Pink Flamingos, and was probably the weirdest and most fun thing the band had ever made. Well, I can tell you this—it's one of the weirdest and most fun songs I've ever heard, and it's an absolute pleasure to rock out to. I hope there's plenty more like it to come!
