Whether as a genre of film, television, or writing, science fiction allows us to peek into the future and conceptualize what it might look like. In some cases, these sneak peeks turn into a reality a few years down the line. Science fiction also presents us with technology and ideas that we might never have imagined, especially in the realm of buildings, weapons, and cars. Cars especially get a lot of super cool upgrades that would make driving a whole lot more enjoyable – and hi-tech. Let’s look at some of the most incredible cars in science fiction that set the screen alight.

DeLorean – Back to the Future

Back to the Future was possibly the first science fiction movie to feature truly iconic Sci-Fi style technology, such as the hoverboard that Marty McFly uses to zoom around his hometown. But aside from the regular tech, the DeLorean that features throughout the films is one of the truly iconic vehicles from the genre. Not only does it look awesome, but it doubles as the time machine used by the crazy professor and his prodigy too. Back to the Future quickly became one of the most profitable science fiction movie franchises back in the day, and this was partly due to the amazing technology and the incredible DeLorean time machine that featured in the films.

It's almost impossible to even begin to describe the technology that would be required to build the cars that feature on this list. One part that would most likely be needed would be a catalytic converter. A catalytic converter is the part of the engine designed to reduce the emissions that exit from the exhaust. Almost all road vehicles have catalytic converters, and the cars with the most expensive converters include the Ferrari F430 and the Ford f250. There is no doubt that these futuristic cars would also require a converter that’s more on the expensive side.

Spinners – Blade Runner

With its distinct cyberpunk aesthetic, Blade Runner is one of the most recognizable science fiction films ever made. This aesthetic carried over into the technology that features throughout, including the unique and advanced Spinners that are driven around the streets in both Blade Runner movies. These cars look nothing like what we see on the roads every day but everyone who has seen the movies wishes they had one of their own. With advanced weapon kits, a Batmobile-like body, and incredible top speeds, the Spinners from Blade Runner are undoubtedly some of the coolest cars in science fiction.

Ford Crown Vic – Men in Black

Now for one entry that looks a lot more like the cars we drive and see on the roads every day, the Ford sedan seen in the Men in Black series. Just like the suits of the protagonists, the Ford Crown Vic is black and has a classic and classy element to it. This vintage Ford, however, is not like the normal model as it is equipped with some of the coolest sci-fi technology to come out of film and television. While you may be able to buy the car, the tech that it features in Men in Black is still not an option... At least, not yet.
