Source: DCEU Will Use "Open Optimism As A Compass"

Geoff Johns is a tease.

A big part of marketing is to get people talking about your brand. When Heroic Hollywood posted a "5 Best Superman Moments" list, Johns took to twitter with a response:

Get ready to revise your list. https://t.co/lnOMdXYJ58

— Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) June 9, 2017

It's no secret that Superman will be making a return in JUSTICE LEAGUE, but we have no idea how much he'll be involved in the film. Based on Johns' tweet, we expect that Superman's first appearance will be fan service on an epic scale.

'Wonder Woman' Passes Batman, Superman Films; Thor is Set to Fall

Super Hero movies have been around for nearly 40 years, as many refer to Richard Donner's Superman starting it all. Which, given Superman's importance in the comic book genre, is appropriate.

But that was 1978 and this is 2017. So much has changed as we are now in a golden age of super heroes on film. A time when 3 or 4 movies based on a comic book super hero are released in any given year with more being planned. Studios have created timelines to plot out the next great super hero movie. And while there has been a wide range of super hero movies over the years, there was something different that occured a couple weekends ago:

WONDER WOMAN.

The Longbox Short-List - Week of June 14, 2017

Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week.   Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that.  Let's get to it!

Comics shipping this week

Even though it’s June 2017, let’s kick off this week’s commentary by going back to two books that are coming out this week that were both originally scheduled for October 2016….

LEGO Batman Movie Hilarious Sendup of Dark Knight

LEGO Batman Movie Blu-ray and DVD

When watching THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, one must keep in mind that there are two Batmans. Batmen. Two characters of the same name that are both LEGO. There.

The Batman in THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, voiced by WILL ARNETT, occupies the universe of THE LEGO MOVIE. The other occupies the LEGO DC SUPER HEROES universe. Both are silly, kid-friendly adventures, but the former really takes advantage of the wider universe of all things LEGO, and isn't afraid to be self-referential.

The Evolution of Catwoman

Catwoman Bridal Dress

Okay, we have no idea if DC Comics is going to revisit the Jim Balent Catwoman bridal motif seen here on the cover of CATWOMAN #18. I mean, sure we assume she's going agree with Batman's order to marry her (remember, he did not ask her to marry him), which means we ought to at least see something in the way of fan art for Catwoman bridal gowns (and let's see what those bridesmaid dresses will look like)!

But as we await this possible next step in Catwoman's costuming, the fine folks at halloweencostumes.com have given us a nifty infographic tracking just how many times the felonious feline has done a wardrobe change.

Tale as Old as Time, Now on DVD

Beauty and the Beast Live DVD

EMMA WATSON and DAN STEVENS eat up the screen in Disney's live-action adaptation of the hit Disney Princess musical, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

Watson portrays Belle, an educated girl forced to live in a small village of people who seem to revel proudly in their ignorance. She is shunned by them, with the exception of the brutish Gaston (LUKE EVANS), a military captain without a war, who has set his sights on Belle as his new conquest. When Belle's father, Maurice (KEVIN KLINE), takes a wrong turn, he ends up at the Beast's castle, running afoul of the master of the place when he plucks a rose to take home to his daughter.

Remembering Adam West

Adam West, Batman; 1928-2017

Where do I begin?

I suppose I begin in 1972, laying on the shag carpet of my parents' living room, tuned into KDNL Channel 30, when I first saw Batman. Oh, I'd seen him in the comic books -- I'd been reading proficiently from a pre-Kindergarten age because of comics. But this was real, not a drawing (although admittedly I was initially taken in by the Dick Sprang style of artwork in the animated opening). And since this was obviously a real person in a real costume, by extension, Batman was real. That's how the mind works at 5 years old.

Please Stop The Perversion of Wonder Woman

Recently, articles have been seeping out onto the internet, looking to capitalize on the success of Wonder Woman.

Normally this wouldn't be a bad thing. Looking for newsworthy tidbits, and analyzing them is what we do in this industry. Unfortunately there's a culture being built around toxicity; blogs saying anything for that elusive 'click' that's so important to increase web traffic.

So naturally, as I predicted, someone has taken what was a cute (and innocent) scene and erected it into something more for shock value.

For Donald's birthday, Disney XD premieres some new DuckTales shorts

Donald Duck first appeared on June 9, 1934 in a cartoon named The Wise Little Hen.  To celebrate, Disney posted the first three of six planned shorts for the new DUCKTALES series debuting in August.  I am a huge fan of Disney's Duck comics not to mention the original cartoon.  I was a little skeptical about bringing back DUCKTALES, but I am definitely hyped up for the show.

I do love that each of the nephews has their own voice and personality.  That is a welcome change!  Entertainment Weekly did an interview with the creators, and they mentioned "If Huey has Scrooge’s brains, Dewey has Scrooge’s guts, and Louie has Scrooge’s love of treasure, Webby has Scrooge’s heart.”

Fall Schedule for 'The Flash', 'Arrow', 'Supergirl' and More!

The CW has announced their fall schedule for their weekly lineup of shows and there are some changes to prepare for.

It's notable that they've streamlined their season premieres to occur on the same week. Last year, THE FLASH kicked things off on a Tuesday night and SUPERGIRL aired the following Monday. The biggest change worth mentioning is ARROW. Having aired on Wednesday night's for 5 seasons, it's moving to Thursday with a very strong lead-in SUPERNATURAL. A show that used to be strong on its own, the last couple of seasons have been scrutinized as sign of the show going downhill.

This move could be an attempt to keep viewership up.

Pokemon Needs A Change

Do You agree Or Disagree?

Many people out there, including myself, grew up as a kid catching Pokemon on Pokemon Red and Blue when it first came out on the Nintendo Gameboy. Over the years, we enjoyed the simple "collect them and evolve them all." The game was addicting at the time, and to others it's still the same working formula where you walk around, fight trainers, catch Pokemon, and level them up.

I remember being in 4th Grade and Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal comes out. Oh! And I forgot about Pokemon Yellow; really wasn't impressed with it.

Trina Robbins, First Woman To Draw Wonder Woman, Selected For Wizard World Hall of Legends

Trina Robbins

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 8, 2017 – Trina Robbins, who famously became the first woman to draw the Wonder Woman character more than 30 years ago, and whose work in underground and mainstream comics goes back to the 1960s, was today named the second honoree in the Wizard World Hall of Legends, a new initiative to celebrate the artists, writers and insiders who have built the industry and those continue the traditions. Robbins will receive the award at a ceremony at Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento on Friday, June 16 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

In 1970, Robbins produced the very first all-woman comic book, "It Ain't me, Babe."  In 1972 she was one of the founding mothers of "Wimmin's Comix," the longest-lasting women's anthology comic book. (1972 - 1992)

No, Batman Does Not Ask Catwoman to Marry Him in Batman #24

Batman Rebirth 24

You've read the news. You've seen the famous image. Heck, by now you should probably have read the issue. And like most people who have done all of that, you have walked away absolutely convinced that Batman -- Bruce Wayne, the Dark Knight of Gotham, the World's Greatest Detective -- has asked Catwoman to marry him.

If that is true, you need to read it again.

BATMAN #24, "Every Epilogue is a Prelude," is an interesting read. It's a back-and-forth timing kind of thing that makes you wonder at first when "now" is. For the majority of the issue, Tom King has us listening in on a conversation between Batman and Gotham Girl, now healed but having learned that using her powers will kill her. She's asking what she should do, whether she should continue being a hero and let her powers end her life early, or quit and go live a normal life. And she wants Batman to make that decision for her.

Does Batman Even Care About His Secret Identity?

Batman Wedding Ring

Today, in BATMAN #24, Batman does something he hasn't done since Earth 2. He proposes. And not just to anyone, but one of his primary rogues gallery members: Catwoman!

Sure, Catwoman isn't one of his psychotic, Arkham escapees, and yes, she's actually been a Justice League of America member, but she's still technically one of the "less than legal" characters. But then, as Batman is destined to say, "We're all criminals. We've always been criminals."

However, the question doesn't arise from Batman's choice in matrimonial partners, but in Bruce Wayne's. You see, Selina Kyle has a criminal record. She killed a lot of people, too, according to the I AM SUICIDE arc in BATMAN. Basically, she's known to be Catwoman.
